BANGKOK – The Education Ministry allows teachers and students who are at risk of contracting the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) after returning from virus-hit countries and territories to self-isolate for 14 days.

Prasert Boonruang, permanent secretary for education said teachers, educational personnel and students, who return from China, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Macau, Malaysia and Vietnam are urged for self-isolation at home for symptom monitoring if medical screening shows they are at risk of contracting the virus.

He noted that their two-week absence will not be counted as leave under the new regulation in response to the spread of the Covid-19 in several countries.

Heads of educational institutes can assign them to work during self-isolation on a case-by-case basis, he added.
