SEOUL – The first case of illegal Thai worker, infected with Covid-19 in South Korea was reported by the Thai embassy in Seoul.
Pinyuda Chamchansri, Thai minister-counsellor for labour, based in South Korea said the Thai patient is a 27-year-old female worker at a dry cleaner in North Gyeongsang Province.
The woman lives with her husband in Gimcheon without a working visa. The couple arrived in South Korea together.
She fell sick on February 26 and sought medical treatment three days later at a hospital, where she was diagnosed with the virus.
She is now under quarantine at a housing unit in the factory premises, waiting for the South Korean authority to find a suitable hospital for her, said Pinyuda.
There is no cost for Covid-19 treatment of foreign patients, according to the South Korean government’s policy, she added.
