BANGKOK, 20 August 2013 The Ministry of Commerce has maintained its export growth target at 7-7.5% for this year in the hope of motivating all sides, despite concerns over the global economic slowdown.

According to Permanent Secretary for Commerce Watcharee Wimuktayont, the ministry will call a meeting in September to re-evaluate the country’s export situation. She has also assured that the Department of International Trade Promotion has been doing its best to stimulate exports by promoting border trade and urgently penetrating ASEAN markets after Thailand’s main markets encountered economic problems.

Regarding commodity prices in the second half of the year, the permanent secretary said entrepreneurs were expected to peg product prices until the end of 2013 thanks to high competition. The Department of Internal Trade would also closely monitor instant food prices after cooking gas price increase took effect on 1 September.
