Nobody told Jimmy A-K-47 Bell it was not the monthly medal so Jim went out and shot a best of the day41 points, there by reducing his handicap without the benefit of a trophy! Mark Wood, who has not been able to play as much as he would like given his work commitments, still gave evidence that infrequent play will not equate to infrequent pay as he was just a step below Jim with a credible 40 points. The final spot in A Flight was filled by our old friend Chris Davidson on 38 points.
Sunday winners – Jim Bell & Peter Henshaw.
The roaster of B Flight winners read like a who’s who of the Lewiinski’s golf society with Peter ‘the silver surfer’ Henshaw and Don ‘the ladies man’ Lehmer in a head to head count back, both locked on 37 points. Peter wouldn’t budge as he took top spot, leaving Don waiting at the church with the silver. Peter Terry, always there or there abouts, filled the flight.
Jim Bell Claude Harder and Fred Graham shared the very healthy 2’s pot.
Tuesday, August 27, Plutaluang – The Donkey’s Birthday Bash

2nd Tom & Max, net 64.5
3rd Bobby & Dipty, net 64.5
Colin the Donkey Davis held his birthday bash and the event had an excellent turnout. While team events are often viewed as “day‘s off” there is nothing easy, or particularly relaxing, about the demanding two-person scramble format. One bad shot by the lead man and the weight of making a golf shot, and “not letting the team down” falls directly in to the second players lap. Although the format is considered American it appeared to suit many different nationalities that make Thailand their home.
Birthday bash winners – Pierre & Yui Bietry.
Three teams all carded excellent scores of net of 64.5 and emerging from the pile up was the Swiss/Thai partnership of Pierre and Yui Bietry who were crowned the winners and presented with the winners’ trophies. Aussie pals Tom McMahon and Max Bracegirdle took the silver trophies as the Indian Boys Bobby and Dipty collected the bronze.
Freddy Starbeck decided (as only he could) that the long drive and near pins were to be abolished and made lucky draw prizes after the presentation. The party went on long into the early hours as everyone sung happy birthday 70 times.
Wednesday, August 28, Burapha A & B – Stableford
1st Kevin Rogers (12) 36 pts
2nd Rod Brown (17) 34 pts
Whilst the Donkey’s birthday was a great and not to be missed event, it did little to bolster the turnout for today’s trip to Burapha, as a modest but sober gang showed up.
Kevin Rogers was happy he made the effort as his solid even par return was good for the man of the match; he was also the sole recipient of the 2’s pot. Kevin was closely followed into the barn by Rod Brown two shots adrift.

To cap the week off right, the society decided to visit old friend Mountain Shadow on Friday.
The A Flight seemed to weather the ride slightly better than their golf challenged B Flight compatriots. Kevin Rogers was man of the match with a fine 41 points six clear of A Flight mate Aussie Max Scott and yet three more than the trio of Brit Nick Shaw, Lou the pied piper of Oz and Canadian Jean LaRoche. The Battling Brit got the most Wampum out of the count back as Lou and Jean came out empty handed.
In B Flight Jimmy ‘two shots’ Elphick stood atop the podium with a steady even par haul and his fellow step-climbers were second placed Brain Prudden with 35 points and third placed Rod Brown with 33.
Brian Prudden promised to take Marlene shopping, as he was the sole heir to the 2’s pot -that’s if she could catch him!
