BANGKOK, 13 September 2013 The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is studying the possibility of building a BTS extension line from Bang Wa Station to Sala Thammasop Train Station in Thawi Watthana district in a bid to connect with the westbound commuter rail system.

Deputy Bangkok Governor Amorn Kijchawengkul said the BTS extension line to Sala Thammasop Train Station is aimed to connect the sky train services with the SRT Light Red Line, which runs from Bang Sue to Salaya, Nakhon Pathom. The project will take one year to complete and is expected to relieve traffic congestion in the Thonburi area.

The line, which will cover a distance of 7 kilometers and cost 20 billion baht, is being studied before an official submission to the Transport Ministry.

Meanwhile, the BMA is also seeking approval for the Grey Line monorail project, which will run from Soi Vatcharapol to the Rama IX Bridge. In the first phase, the line will be built on the Vatcharapol-Rama IV section under a budget of 20 billion baht.

The project which is tentatively scheduled to start next year will help ease congestion in Northern and Southern Bangkok.
