More than 50 Pattaya students learned the basics of science and engineering as they assembled hand-made robots at the city’s local K*Bots Championships.
Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome presided over the Aug. 28-29 contest at Pattaya School No. 11 where students built rolling, moving robots from kits sold by K’Nex Corp. of the U.S.
Itthiphol said the competition was part of the city’s new teaching program, which stresses practical experience in addition to book learning. The K*Bots program was organized to highlight science in cooperation with Multi-Education Co.

Ten teams competed in grade-level divisions. Each group had to explain the details of its project and build robots with K*Bots kits, which include frames, wheels and gears. To win, the robot had to actually turn on and move.
In the primary school category, Pattaya School No. 4’s “Jom Phalang” won first place and 3,000 baht. “Star City” from Pattaya School No. 3 finished second, taking home 2,000 baht, and Pattaya School No. 5’s “Art Junior Car” took third and 1,000 baht.

In the high school category, School No. 2’s “Zumo” squad won the 3,000 baht first-place prize. School No. 6’s “Evolution” group took second and “K*Bot Car Pattaya” from School No. 9 won third.
