Ayutthaya flooded by one metre of water

AYUTTHAYA, Sept 20 – Water levels in this central province’s rivers continue to rise by 20-30 centimetres/day due to continued rain.

Provincial disaster prevention and mitigation office chief Udomsak Khaonuna spoke of water overflowing the riverbanks on the Chao Phraya and Noi Rivers on Friday.

Three districts have been flooded, affecting 152 villages and 5,100 households. In some parts of Bang Ban, Sena, Phak Hai districts, water levels are as high as more than one metre. Local residents have been using boats to travel.

Meanwhile, in the western province of Prachaub Khiri Khan, subdistrict administrative organisation chief Pansak Chaiyai said authorities in the provincial seat are monitoring damage caused by incessant heavy rain and strong wind.

Nineteen households and some farming areas along the Tenasserim Range near the Thai-Cambodian border have so far been affected by the rain. (MCOT online news)
