BANGKOK, 20 September 2013 Army Chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha has visited the Deep South to meet with national security-related agencies, while reiterating that Thailand cannot accede to all the 5 demands made by the BRN insurgency movement.

Accompanied by several high ranking officers, General Prayuth yesterday visited Pattani Province and met with national security related agencies working in the restive South. The army chief was informed of the current situation and measures taken in the violence plagued areas. Gen Prayuth instructed officers to speed up investigation into all cases, while urging soldiers to be more cautious on and off duty.

As for the 5-point demand made by the BRN militant group, Gen Prayuth said Thailand could not accede it outright. The General affirmed that the government had yet to accept any of the demands.

The general went on to say that the overall situation in the Deep South seems to be improving, believing peace will once again be restored in the violence-torn South.

Even if those demands were to be met by the Thai side, the decisions would have to be made based on the law and constitution of the kingdom of Thailand, the C-in-C said.
