NAKHON RATCHASIMA, 24 September 2013 An ivory smuggling group was caught in Nakhon Ratchasima province on Monday with 56 century-old elephant tusks meant for export to China.

Police in Nakhon Ratchasima seized elephant tusks that were between 64-200 centimeters in length from Suchat Sikaew (38) and Denchai Sikanin (46), who were transporting the tusks in a van. The two confessed they were on their way to Sakon Nakhon province to deliver the tusks to a customer who was to export them to China.

The ivory belonged to African elephants, and are found to be no less than a hundred years old in age. Officials indicated the tusks were likely obtained from elephants that were shot dead for their prized tusks.
