With religious holiday’s upcoming weekend, the Ministry of Culture is encouraging faithful Buddhist to observe religious teachings, while asking temples across the country to enforce social distancing and necessary precautionary measures against COVID-19 at religious events.
The religious Asalha Bucha Day will take place on Sunday, followed by the beginning of Buddhist Lent. The Ministry of Culture has announced national Buddhism Promotion Week celebrations from today until July 6, starting with the Buddhist Lent Candle Making ceremony today presided over by the Minister of Culture, Ittipol Khunpluem.
At the ceremony, 10 Buddhist Lent candles will be made and delivered to 10 historic temples in Bangkok, including Wat Mahathat Yuwaratrangsarit, Wat Rama IX Kanchanaphisek, and Wat Phromwongsaram. The delivery will take place on July 3.
The Ministry of Culture has coordinated with temples across the country to enforce public health measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, by requiring participants at religious events to wear face masks, installing a body temperature screening point, as well as enforcing social distancing and capacity control measures to prevent crowding.
Faithful Buddhists are invited to observe and celebrate the religious holidays as normal, while complying with the health and safety measures, for the good fortune of themselves and their families.(NNT)
