BANGKOK, 29 September 2013 – The Ministry of Education is preparing to reform English language education in Thailand in the hope to increase the English proficiency of Thai students to the standards of their ASEAN neighbors.
Minister of Education Jaturon Chaisaeng said the ministry’s ASEAN mobile fair, being rotated in four parts of the country, was aimed at motivating Thai students to learn more about ASEAN and develop their English language skills in public speaking and writing. The minister encouraged schools to adapt the fair’s activities to their English curricula in preparations for the ASEAN Economic Community in 2015.
The English reform would focus on helping the students be able to communicate in English and use the language as learning tool, the minister said. Mr Jaturon added that he hoped the reform would help put Thai children’s English on a par with other countries in the region.
