BANGKOK, Oct 1 – Bangkok Governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra allayed fears of flooding in the capital with his confirmation that water level of the Chao Phraya River is lower than predicted and that the intended flood prevention measures have been well-prepared.
While inspecting anti-flood preparations in several Bangkok communities yesterday, the governor said the city administration has coordinated with the central government on its release of water from various dams, especially the Pa Sak Cholasit Dam the outflow of which flows into the Rama VI Dam, and further to the Central Plains and Bangkok.
The government has confirmed that water was released from the Pa Sak Cholasit Dam at the rate of 2,300 cubic metres per second, he said, adding that the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has closely monitored the water level though the situation is normal for the time being.
Mr Sukhumbhand will today inspect Rama VI Dam in Ayutthaya province, 80 km north of Bangkok, to integrate the flood-prevention measures there with the BMA’s water management plan.
