BANGKOK, 30 April 2010 (NNT) – Charoen Pokphand Foods Plc (CPF) has reported an increase by 20-25 percent in Japan’s order for processed chicken meat from the company in line with its higher demand prompted by the previous disaster.
As a consequence of the earthquake and tsunami disaster in Japan in March, Executive Vice President of CPF’s Food Integrated Business Unit Teerasak Urunanon indicated that the devastated country had higher need to import instant and processed foods from other countries. He said the company’s export of processed cooked chicken meat to the country had grown by 20-25 percent while anticipating the whole year volume to touch 27,000 tons, worth 5.4 billion THB, as opposed to 22,000 tons of last year.
According to Mr Teerasak, Japan is considered the export market with highest potential as it accounts for up to 80 percent of CPF’s export to the entire ASEAN region and has high trust in the quality and safety standards of Thai products.
In addition, as assistance for victims of the natural disaster, CPF has delivered 25 tons of Japanese-style deep-fried chicken, worth 5 million THB, to Japan for distribution through local trade partners. The help was made upon the company’s long-standing business relations with the country.
