Wednesday, Oct. 2, Green Valley – Stableford
Green Valley was our venue as usual today, and it was no carts on the fairways – a first I think for Green Valley, as despite all the rain they have had here the course is still standing up really well.
With nine groups we got off to a slightly early start and due to a couple of no-shows we had three 3-balls at the back. A special thanks to those players for their patience as it was going to be a slow day for them. When we got to the second tee there were three groups waiting to tee off, but after that it just seemed to flow along quite nicely.

The scores were quite good considering the conditions but even though we played winter rules there were also some ordinary returns from some of the boys.
There was a three-way count back for fifth with Cottee getting the nod over Bob Newell and Neil Carter. Fourth place went to Eng Duangwaw with 36 points, third to Sell Wegner on 37 points and in second was Owen Walkley, also with 37. The winner today was Jack Butler with a fine 38 points.
There were three ‘2’s today coming from Sel Wegner with a snake putt of about 25 feet, Brian Maddox with a tap in from 2 feet and Paul Bourke, not sure how close that one was.
We welcomed Leith Turnbull and his brother-in-law Barry Burgess back over from Perth for a week of golf so they were praying for no rain, at least until the weekend was over.
Friday, Oct. 4, Mountain Shadow – Stableford
We started on time, albeit with a packed tee as another group was sent over from Crystal Bay because it was carts on pathways only there. We went out first on our booked time spot and literary flew around the course, which was quite wet under foot in a lot of places but we were finished in 3½ hours. There was no rain and it didn’t even threaten so I guess we dodged a bullet there.
It was decided to play from the white tees because of the heavy going and it proved to be a wise decision as apart from 4 outstanding scores the course was the winner on the day.
In fourth place was Mark Wood with 37 points off his 8 handicap, third was John Davis with 38 off a handicap of 22, second was Ted Morris (13) with 39 points and in first was Owen Walkley with 40 off his 15 handicap, which won’t be there for much longer.
There were three ‘2’s coming from Capt. Bob with one and the other two from Bob Newell.
We welcomed Barry Lewis back from England and another new face at the Billabong, John Davis.
