Grimes in the zone

After an enforced absence of a few saturated days the PGS decided to test the depth of “squelch” again on Wednesday, 9th October, with Pattana B and A nines as the post-deluvium guinea pig.  They found the fairways still soft and in parts boggy but the greens were in top shape.

The single flight played from the yellow tees and the recorded 6,500 yards seemed much, much longer.  Against all the odds the stableford event was won with a score which ranked with the best of the year as Ken Grimes found himself “in the zone”, striking the ball long and straight and nailing putts from all distances on the consistent greens to record forty points.  Ten points adrift in second were old hands Robbie Taylor and Mr Len with thirty points each.

There were no birdie ‘2’s and the returning Ray Regan was favourite for the Booby Bevy with his 21 points.

What a day it had been with golfers wrestling with wet and uncut rough and constantly preferring lies on the watery fairways.  Things could only get better as the wet season draws to an end and the returning golfers can look forward to better times on courses as challenging as Pattana.
