Travellers Rest Golf Group
The Rainy Season in Thailand is proving itself with a vengeance at the moment with many areas suffering severe flooding, including some of our regular golfing venues. I think I chose a good week to go touring around the north of Thailand, the weather in Chiang Mai was beautiful. I left Pattaya on the morning of Monday 7th October in diabolical weather thinking the TRGG could not possibly play golf in that weather, but play golf they did.
Monday, Oct. 7, Bangpra – Stableford
Bangpra, the monkey course, was the venue and I expect the monkeys were confused as they probably thought it was they who were born with the brains not the idiotic humans trying to play golf in those conditions. Ged Higgins held things together the best to just edge David Booth, with Keith Thorogood taking third place.
Mod Chaviraksa – winner at Phoenix.
1st Ged Higgins (20) 34pts
2nd David Booth (15) 33pts
3rd Keith Thorogood (28) 31pts
Tuesday, Oct. 8, Greenwood – Stableford
On Tuesday it was off to Greenwood (C and A courses) for the TRGG and I can only assume by the final scores for the day that the winner played out of his skin, or alternatively has a very dodgy handicap. I will let you, the reader, decide.
Stewart Booth was the winner with a quite amazing 46 points followed in a long, long way behind by Derek Thorogood, with Ted Senior finishing in third.
1st Stewart Booth (14) 46pts
2nd Derek Thorogood (17) 37pts
3rd Ted Senior (14) 35pts
Thursday, Oct. 10, Phoenix – Stableford
On Thursday it was back to Phoenix (Mountain and Lakes) for the largest turnout of the week. The ladies had it all their own way today, seeing off all the men with ease.
Mod Chaviraksa continued her good form of late by taking first place, with Tewin Poopay Lamthong filling the runners up spot and leading man Ged Higgins was in third place.
1st Mod Chaviraksa (12) 36pts
2nd Tewin Poopay Lamthong (11) 34pts
3rd Ged Higgins (19) 32pts
Good luck to all you golfers for the coming week and if you would like to play a round of golf with the TRGG please phone Fergus Brennan on 086 056 7019 or pop into the Ned Kelly Bar in Soi Lengkee and add your name to the weekly lists which are posted on the notice board.
