Dare I say it?  Is the rainy season over for another year?  We had an absolutely gorgeous week of golf here in Pattaya last week and even the temperature dropped a few degrees to make for perfect golf weather.  Sure, it’s a bit clammy around mid-day, but not nearly as bad as it has been.  We have all noticed a pleasant change, which really makes Pattaya a golfer’s paradise!

Cheers to Mike Newbert, Jeff Cordeiro and Bob McPhail.Cheers to Mike Newbert, Jeff Cordeiro and Bob McPhail.

It sure must have helped Jeff Cordeiro on Monday.  With 4 birdies and a couple of bogeys he had one heck of a round to beat the field with a tremendous 42 points on the day.  Jeff took second place here the previous week, but this time the putts just kept droppin’ and that is a great round of golf!

Poor Bob McPhail, a 41 would usually be enough to take top spot, but he chose the wrong day for a great round and had to settle for second.  Mike Newbert also showed a return to form and the ‘Montauk Mauler’ was rewarded with 3rd place with his 39 points.

Friday was the day for our pal Kenny Aihara to break out his new clubs.  Those sleek new TaylorMade R11 irons and a new hot pink bag (no, it wasn’t Hello Kitty, I checked!) were just the ticket.  The new putter, however, was not so hot so you may be seeing a hardly used flat club on ebay this week.

Kenny has a legendary short game, and knows how to finesse those Vokey wedges in a truly masterful fashion.  He did just that on this day, but our fearless Golf Captain Phil Smedley did one better as the affable Aussie won it with just 33 points!  Kenny shared 2nd place with Anders Pedersen and will now be on the lookout for a new putter that works as well as the new irons.

Finally, we must congratulate Michael Winterburn for his 1st place Low Net at the Siam Country Club Members Tournament on Sunday the 27th.  There was a lot of stiff competition out there and Michael did a great job of holding off the field for his victory.
