Local charity on a mission with golf
The Women With a Mission team has done it again. For the fifth consecutive year they organised and ran a highly popular and successful golf tournament, and even better, managed to get through the entire day without rain on the immaculate Phoenix Golf Course, while black clouds and thunderstorms rolled all around them. The gods definitely do smile on them.
Women With a Mission is a small group, comprising one American and two Aussie Pattaya-based ladies who work tirelessly to deliver support for marginalised needy children in Thailand. Their work with Karen children up on the Thai-Myanmar border and severely disabled Thai children in Rayong has provided a real difference in the lives of hundreds of children. Even though such a small group, the tournament saw dozens of their friends turn out to volunteer in the running and organisation on the day.
The annual Women With a Mission golf tournament, held at Phoenix Golf Club on October 19 proved to be another unqualified success.
The annual WWM tournament has become one of their major fund-raising sources, and this year was no exception. More than one hundred golfers turned out for a “Texas Scramble” event held on Friday 18 October. For the moderate entry cost the golfers were provided with real value – the green and caddy fee; a golf shirt and “goody bag”; a lunch snack; free-flow beer and wine and a sumptuous dinner; and even more prizes given away.

Many different organisations and business contributed to the prizes – too many to mention, however the major sponsors, GAC Thailand, Dana Spicer Thailand, Albatross Logistics and Titan-VNS Logistics are worth a mention for the fact they have now been loyal sponsors of WWM for many years.
This year’s successful tournament managed to raise THB 670,000, but all this has to go a long way and still needs to be supplemented by other fund-raising events and sponsors’ money. There are more than 250 children on the Thai border relying on WWM to feed, house and educate them every day of the year. And there is the Rayong disabled facility where they are pushing change from just a minding center to one that provides actual remedial therapy to the children.

So all the golfers not only had a great fun day out full of great value, but they all left knowing that in some small way they had contributed to help children with real needs in Thailand and a great appreciation for the hardworking ladies of WWM!

(Purple Hearts) – Ann Winfield, Wendy Nicholas, Mary Adams & Nancy Jacobs.
Many sponsors came onboard once again to provide much needed support for the tournament and charity.
Over 100 male and female golfers turned out to support this year’s tournament.
