BANGKOK, 8 November 2013 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has urged border security forces to maintain peace with neighboring Thailand ahead of the forthcoming ruling by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) that will settle the fate of contested land near the Preah Vihear temple.

Soldiers are advised to strictly avoid any actions that may inflame tension between the two neighbours.
The Thai government has also taken a number of steps to prevent the outbreak of hostilities along the border or civil unrest in the case of an unfavorable verdict.
Mr Hun Sen said that after the ruling, the two governments would maintain friendship and a cooperative stance between the two nations and armies, and will maintain peace, security and safety along the Cambodian-Thai border.
National groups in Thailand have gathered in Si Sa Ket in a bid to stage protests tomorrow against any unfavorable ruling by the ICJ. Protesters have earlier been urged to refrain from entering strategically sensitive areas near the disputed border.
