CHIANG RAI, 16 November 2013 Having been on a coach trip to personally experience bus travel to Chiang Rai, Transport Minister Chatchart Sitthiphan said Lampang bus termianl and the roads leading to the Northern Region needed to be improved.
The transport minister, after his trip on an air-conditioned bus serving the Bangkok – Chiang Rai route, explained that the trip allowed him to check on the service quality of Chiang Rai’s 2nd bus terminal. He said the bus terminal was in good condition to service the public. The minister also got on a ‘song thaew’ transport to make way into the city area, using the opportunity to observe the service by the song thaew.
Mr. Chatchart said his trip to Chiang Rai was unannounced beforehand because he wanted to collect undistorted information.
He deemed from his trip that the travel was safe and convenient, but the road condition from Lampang to Chiang Rai caused some delay in the travel and improvement should be made. He added that some bus terminals needed to be urgently improved, especially the terminals that have been transferred to local administrative bodies that were incapable of operating them. Lampang station was cited as an example.
Mr. Chatchart added that, in the future, those living in Chiang Rai and Phayao will have the choice of traveling by high-speed train.
