BANGKOK, Nov 24— Three major anti-government groups and other groups on Saturday declared to jointly fight against and eliminate the network related to ex-prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, the so-called ‘Thaksin Regime,’ from Thailand as well as to drive national reform.
Leaders and representatives of the anti-government groups together showed up on the same stage for the first time at Democracy Monument, the Democrat-led rally site, before their so-called day of reckoning begins today.
The protest leaders and representatives appearing on the stage mainly were ex-Democrat MP Suthep Thaugsuban, Nitithorn Lamlua of the Network of Students and People for Thailand’s Reform (NSPTR), Samdin Lertbut of the Dharma Army, Suriyasai Katasila of the Green Politics Group, Somkiat Pongpaiboon of Anti-Thaksin Coalition, Preecha Iamsuphan of the People’s Democratic Force to Overthrow Thaksinism and Somkiat Homla-or of the Business Club for Democracy.
Mr Suthep said that they all vow to stand shoulder to shoulder with the people until they achieved victory in their battle against the Thaksin Regime.
Meanwhile, Mr Nitithorn announced that the fight is not about politics but it is the fight between democracy and tyranny. He added the fight is not for political power but to bring back virtue.
Demonstrators are expected to march to 12 locations around the capital on Monday. However, the locations have not yet been disclosed.
On the other hand, leaders of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) or the Red Shirt group have called for another rally on Sunday.
UDD Chairwoman Thida Thavornseth and other Red Shirt leaders on Saturday announced they would hold a demonstration at Rajamangala Stadium to protect the elected government and Parliament and have not yet specified a date to end the rally.
