The Pattaya Golf Society (IPGC) at Rabbi’s Elephant Bar
December started on the second for the Pattaya Golf Society with a visit to a very windy Green Valley to play a stableford event on the well presented course, with full fairways and quick greens – probably set that way to satisfy the new six-minute start time initiative! However, a joy it was to be there with the two divisions cut at twelve and under.
In the second flight perpetual runner-up Phil McClure again managed it, this time with Jim Ferris on the same score of 34 points. The winner in a close event was Murray Edwards with 35 points.
In the top flight Yasuo Suzuki finished in third with 35 points whilst Wichai Tananusorn and Martin Grimoldby tied for the win with 36 points each; Martin recording the day’s best gross figures of 77.
The ‘2’s pot was shared by top flight golfers Brian Beaupre, Yasuo Suzuki nd Khun Wichai whilst the Booby Bevy went to a slightly embarrased “Banjo” Bannister after his week began ten shots over whilst the previous week had seen him finish ten under, a true hero-to-zero performance!

On Friday, 6th December the Pattaya Golf Society visited a full Crystal Bay to play a stableford competition on the B and C nines which were in excellent condition, with the B greens running at a delicious pace and the C greens only slightly slower. The large field was divided into two flights at fourteen and under and the warm conditions made for good scoring.
In the top flight Wichai Tananusorn took third place with 37 points, one shot in arrears to the joint winners Martin Grimoldby and Peter Wilson, both finishing on 38 points. Martin’s gross 75 was the best of the day and emphasized what a solid and skilful golfer the Englishman is.
In the second flight Dave Lehane took third place with 37 points whilst Jim Ferris and Dave Plaiter shared the flight win with 38 points each.
There were four birdie ‘2’s for Martin Grimoldby (2), Peter Wilson and Brian Talbot but these were eclipsed by the group’s twelfth competition hole-in-one in the last nine years. It came on the signature hole, B6 as Dave Plaiter stroked an admirable eight iron to the back of the hole, running it back in true style. Up went the caddies and the cheers could be heard two holes away! Congratulations Dave and thanks for the bell ringing back in Soi Buakhao!
The Booby Bevy went to Gubbi Innvaer for his low score of the day and Rabbi’s consolation beer went to Brian Talbot on his final round this trip.
It had been another truly memorable day for the PGS and one which Dave Plaiter will remember for a long time.
