New business registrations rise in April due to continued economic growth

BANGKOK, May 11 – The number of entrepreneurs seeking registration for new businesses in April surged by 46 per cent to 5,098 from 1,611 in the same month last year with combined registered capital of Bt15.25 billion, according to Deputy Commerce Minister Alongkorn Ponlaboot.

He attributed the significant increase in the newly-registered businesses to the increased confidence of the private sector in the country’s economic outlook.

It brought up the number of newly-registered businesses by 3,907 or 22 per cent to 21,239 in the January-April period from the corresponding period the year before.

Business sectors in which the new entrepreneurs most frequently registered include recreation and services, building construction, and property development.

He said the number of entrepreneurs seeking registration to close their businesses in April amounted to 567 with a combined registered capital of Bt2.06 billion.

The number of businesses registering to cease operations totaled 2,536 in the January-April period, up 439 or 20 per cent from the same period last year.

At present, the number of businesses registering countrywide totals 488,088. (MCOT online news)
