Michael Giavasis, 25, died after 2 a.m. this morning in his Central Pattaya condo which 50 Pattaya and Chonburi police had locked down and sent in a crisis negotiator.

Police plan the arrest while the shooter hid in his room.

Chonburi deputy police chief Pol. Col. Korawat Hanpradit said Giavasis earlier that day had stolen a 9mm Glock handgun from a shooting range in Huay Yai. Police pursued, but broke off close pursuit after he fired several shots at them. Giavasis then managed to escape.

He resurfaced at his condo tower, where he was reported to be making “dangerous problems.” When police arrived, he fired randomly, hitting reporter Thiwakorn Kritmanee, 31, in the left foot.

Thiwakorn received first aid and was taken to Bangkok Hospital Pattaya.

The shooter barricaded himself in his apartment and would not cooperate with police. After about three hours, he shot himself.
