The Royal Thai Navy continued its effort to repopulate the Gulf of Thailand’s battered marine ecosystem, again releasing hundreds of turtles into the wild for HM the King’s birthday.
Marking the start of His Majesty’s 87th year, the Royal Thai Fleet commander Adm. Phijarn Teeranate led more than 1,000 military, government, police and community representatives in releasing 987 endangered green and Hawksbill turtles.
One of the bigger turtles is given an official sendoff.
Among those freeing the juvenile turtles on the beach Dec. 1 were celebrities, members of the Navy Wives Association, local government workers and students.
