BANGKOK, 2 Jan 2014 – The Land Transport Department’s ad-hoc passenger protection center has received 124 complaints against public bus drivers during December 27th-31st, and all the cases are being dealt with in court.
Director-General Achasatai Rattanadilok Na Phuket said most of the offenders were guilty of driving recklessly, dishonoring the deal with passengers, exhibiting vulgar behaviors, and charging unfair rates.
He also stated that Land Transport Dept checkpoints set up during the period found 234 out of 88,000 public buses unfit for services, with most of them having damaged windshields and passenger seats, followed by failing electrical systems and emergency doors.
About 200 drivers of the buses tested also violated driving regulations wearing impolite attire and speaking impolitely while on duty. Some of the drivers had been overworking and did not carry their licenses. All of the violators are now facing disciplinary actions.
