The Pattaya Golf Society (IPGC) at Rabbi’s Elephant Bar

The Pattaya Golf Society ended its fascinating golfing year with a visit to Mountain Shadow on Monday, 30th December.  The course had kept its green fee rate at normal and with the course in excellent condition from the blue tees and with faster greens than many could remember the challenge of the day was enormous.

The field was divided into two flights at fourteen and under and in the second flight Canadians Kevin McConnell and Henry Mah shared third place with 30 points, leaving Michael McGuigan and John Evans in control of the flight with 31 points.

In the top flight Alan Flynn recorded 29 points for third whilst Marc Jensen’s 30 points took second.  The round of the day was that of Andrew Purdie and an eagle on the testing par five third hole was followed by the only birdie two of the day on the fourth to set up a level par round of 36 points.  On a day with a strong breeze always evident his power was the controlling factor.

And so the year ended, with the return to the fray for Rabbi who duly celebrated with the Booby Bevy after a dismal performance.  Better days lie ahead Boss!

Wichai & Wilson first foot

A Happy New Golfing Year was guaranteed as the Pattaya Golf Society chose to open its annual schedule on Friday, 3rd January with a trip to Khao Kheow to play a stableford event on the B and C nines, which were in excellent order with running fairways and well paced greens.

The field was divided into two flights at seventeen and under and newly arrived old friends included Dave Moriarty, Alex Sala and David Thomas.

In a fiercely competitive second flight Mr Len threw off the frustrations of four-putting the last hole to share second place with Larry Ang on 34 points whilst canny old campaigner Pat Murphy opened his 2014 account with 35 points for the win.

In the top flight Marc Jensen again showed his consistency with 34 points for third.  The best rounds of the day were those of Peter Wilson and Wichai Tananusorn who shared the win with 37 points.

There were four birdie ‘2’s with Kevin McConnell, Henry Mah and Pat Murphy conquering the B8 island green and Dave Edwards popping up on C8.  Rabbi’s no winners bonus beer went to Masashi Iizumi whilst Alan Flynn received the Booby Bevy for his split figures of eight and nineteen.

Thus the new year had begun successfully with PGS and there will be many more golf days las enjoyable ahead.
