BANGKOK, Jan 12 – The latest survey by Suan Dusit Poll indicated that the planned Bangkok shutdown by anti-government protesters of the People’s Democratic Reform Committess (PDRC) could bring changes to Thailand’s politics.
The poll, conducted by the Rajabhat Suan Dusit University among 1,344 respondents between Jan 9-11 on the PDRC’s planned Bangkok shutdown on Jan 13, found that 34 per cent of those surveyed said they viewed the mass rally tomorrow as an important event that could bring changes to Thai politics.
Twenty-four per cent of respondents said the mass protest will affect all Thais, the country, as well as business and trade, while 8 per cent, the smallest polled percentage, said the protest could lead to political chaos and clashes among Thais.
When asked how they are preparing for the planned occupation of the PDRC, 31 per cent of respondents said they will accept the consequences of what is going to happen, followed by using consideration when receiving the news (23 per cent), sparing more time to commute to work/school (20 per cent), skipping classes/taking tomorrow off (14 per cent), and preparing food, drinking water and cash in case of emergency (10 per cent).
Bangkokians, polling at the highest rate of 28 per cent, said they will closely monitor the news tomorrow, while 38 per cent of those surveyed commented that they wanted the protest to end as soon as possible.
