TRAT, 15 January 2014 An extension of operating hours has become effective at Ban Hat Lek Border Crossing in the eastern province of Trat and is expected help spur Thai-Cambodian trade and tourism.
According to Trat Governor Benjawan Anpruang, Ban Hat Lek is one of five permanent crossings on the Thai-Cambodian border that have been granted permission by the government to open longer hours, from 7 am-8 pm previously to 6 am-10 pm. The extension is in accord with the Cabinet resolution on October 29, 2013, and takes effect from January 13, 2014, onwards.
Trade at the border market and transport of goods between the two countries are expected to greatly benefit from the hour extension. It will also facilitate tourists traveling in and out of the Kingdom and is deemed as a good preparation for the ASEAN Community’s upcoming establishment.
The other four border crossings enjoying the longer opening hours consist of Ban Laem and Ban Phakkat Border Crossings in Chanthaburi, Ban Khlong Luek Border Crossing in Sa Kaeo and Chong Chom Border Crossing in Surin.
