Farmers in Ubon Ratchathani demand rice pledging money

UBON RATCHATHANI, 16 January 2014 Farmers from various districts in the northeastern province of Ubon Ratchathani have furiously demanded that the government pay them for the rice pledged under the pledging program. 

Around 100 farmers representing their villages met with Ubon Ratchathani deputy governor Kanchat Thansatien and a representative of the Bank of Agriculture and Agriculture Co-operatives on Thursday to ask for updates on the progress of rice pledging payment. According to those farmers, they have joined the scheme since November and have never received any money so far.

The deputy governor said the province was well aware of the problems and would soon forward the information to the government in order for it to speed up the payment process. Meanwhile, the bank representative told farmers that the bank was mulling ways to help their customers out of this financial difficulties.
