The Coco Club at Ban Amphur held Thailand’s first Pro-Am Indoor Lawn Bowls event on Sunday 19th January with the help of sponsorship from Siam Winery and Red Bull.
Eight seasoned players were drawn out of the hat to be paired with 8 newcomers and play took place on a round robin league basis. The first round was a little tense with the teams settling down with their new partners but that broke the ice for a fine day of lawn bowls.

The second round saw a new star emerge in the form of Mike from Bangkok, who having only played about 3 hours of bowls still managed on one end to get three bowls within 6 inches of the Jack to help in an 11-8 win. The third round achieved results of a 9-9 draw between Margaret and John from Bangkok against Bank and Margaret from the UK as well as a 9-8 win for Mike and Kitty from Bangkok against Kelvin and Muk, which turned out to be a match winner.

The play off for 3rd and 4th place produced a 10-10 draw between Kelvin & Muk and Ken & Jenny but rather than go to sudden death, after 40 ends of bowls it was decided to call it a day and share the spoils. This left the finalists where Mike and Kitty – a tax Inspector from Bangkok opposed Ian and Darryl – a former police inspector from Australia.
It was Kitty (Marlee) who turned out to be the rising star by doing everything Mike asked, their team racing to a 10-0 start and despite a resurgence from the opposition they ran out comfortable winners 13-7.
All proceeds from entry fees went to the local school at Mabphukthong.
