BANGKOK, 31 January 2014 The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has hosted a merit-making ceremony today in commemoration of the 100th day since the passing of His Holiness Somdet Phra Nyanasamvara, the Supreme Patriarch.
Permanent Secretary for the BMA Ninnart Chalitanon led BMA officials, state workers, related organizations and the general public in an alms-giving activity for 200 Buddhist monks at the plaza in front of the Bangkok City Hall. The event was aimed to make merit on the occasion of the 100th day after the Supreme Patriarch’s death. Throngs of Buddhist Thais participated by bringing dried foods and flowers for alms giving.
His Holiness Somdet Phra Nyanasamvara, the Supreme Patriarch, passed away on October 24 last year from blood infection shortly after he turned 100. He had been undergoing treatment for his illness at Chulalongkorn Hospital since 2004. Thai citizens across the country as well as Buddhists around the world have been mourning the death of the revered monk due to his important role in the propagation of Buddhism.
