BANGKOK 10 February 2014  Digital TV operators have requested CAT Telecom clarify important issues, such as rating criteria, channel numbering, and digital TV networking.

CAT Telecom committee members have invited the winners of the digital TV auction, which encompasses a total of 24 channels, to meet prior to the delivery of their digital TV licenses.

Three main topics are to be discussed in the meeting: the setting up of the rating system; the sequence of channels in the digital and satellite TV system; and the readiness of the network providers.

Preemon Pinsakul, Group Chief Financial Officier of GMM Grammy, stated that there needed to be more clarification on the rating system. Any delays, he said, would affect the company’s advertising revenue. Moreover, he expressed his concerns about the ambiguity of the “must carry” rule where consumers will be able to view certain content free of charge.

Payungsak Charnduayvidya, Voice TV’s Marketing Director stated the most efficient way to measure ratings is based on the “set top box” system, where figures are derived from box purchases using coupons.

However, CAT Telecom has stated that it will allow freedom and flexibility in the rating system.
