NONTABURI, 13 Feb 2014, Farmers staging protests in the capital and its vicinity have stated they would examine rice stockpiles in the government’s warehouses after the Commerce Ministry had given them the green light.
The resolve was expressed during Wednesday’s meeting of protesting farmers at the demonstration site in front of the Commerce Ministry office in Nonthaburi Province.
One of the farmers’ leaders said that the government warehouse inspection would be conducted this weekend but didn’t reveal where it would take place. The leader said that they could carry out the rice probe freely without fear of being apprehended for trespassing, as the authority of the Public Warehouse Organization had recently informed them that it welcomes the inspection.
Meanwhile the farmer protesters announced that they would march to the Defense Ministry office again on Monday, asking for an audience with Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra. They vowed to escalate the gathering if their request was denied.
