Travellers Rest Golf Group
For those of you who have been asking after the health of our main man, Fergus Brennan, I am happy to inform you that he is on the mend. When your intrepid reporter caught up with Fergus last week he declared that his eyes were much improved and that he hoped to be back on the golf course by the middle of the month or shortly thereafter. After posing for the enclosed photograph it is plain for all to see that he is nearly back to normal.
Monday, Feb. 3, Pattavia Century – Stableford
On Monday we headed off through the pineapple fields to play Pattavia Century, formerly Century Chonburi, our first visit here for about two years.
It has certainly changed for the better and it was always a picturesque course. When the new clubhouse is completed the facilities will be first class and I am sure the TRGG will be more regular visitors in the future.

All the players found it tricky and that resulted in a very tight finish with the first four all finishing on 34pts. Irishman Niall Cronin came out on top after a count back, with his mate Liam Horgan taking the runners up spot and Dave Palmer in third.

Tuesday, Feb. 4, Green Valley – Stableford
On Tuesday it was off to Green Valley and my old mate Ken Brehm took the competition by storm and posted 39pts, which was far too good for the rest. Seasoned campaigner Roger Wilkinson sailed into second place and Mr. Reliable Alan Thomas took third.

Thursday, Feb. 6, Bangpakong Riverside – Stableford
The largest group of the week set off on Thursday to play Bangpakong, or so we thought. When we all arrived at Royal Lakeside there was a lot of waving of arms and scratching of heads amongst all the Thai minibus drivers when we tried to explain we were at the wrong course. All was eventually sorted out and we were only a few minutes late for our first tee off time at Bangpakong.

The facilities here are now second to none and nearly everybody came away feeling better about their game. Because of the high numbers two divisions were necessary.
In Division 1, Phil Mitchell (not the Eastender) smashed his way to the head of the field and then beat a hasty retreat before I could take his photograph for the hall of fame. Sounds like the sort of thing the Eastender would do. Tristan Gilbert, who gives the golf ball a good spanking most of the time, finished second and also won a bottle of whisky for being the first player to do a birdie on the stroke index 1 hole. Alan Thomas once again finished on the rostrum taking third place.
In Division 2, Magnus Alvarsson, another guy who gives a golf ball what for, finished top of the pile, followed home by Jack Swan and Reg Glass.

Saturday, Feb. 8, Crystal Bay – Stableford
On Saturday the minibus drivers managed to get everybody to Crystal Bay (B and C courses), which was where we were supposed to be. Rice farmer David Booth showed he was the pick of the crop by amassing 38pts, which was just good enough to defeat restaurateur Jim Cleaver but only on count back. Retired Larry Simpson made it into third place.
