Bangkok, 25 February, 2014 – TripAdvisor recently announced the winners of its Travellers’ Choice Islands. In its second year, the annual awards recognise more than 100 islands globally, including top 10 lists for Asia, Africa, the Caribbean, Europe, South America, the South Pacific, and the U.S.
Barbara Messing, chief marketing officer for TripAdvisor said, “From the coral reefs of Ambergris Caye to the beaches of Ko Tao, these Travellers’ Choice Islands winners have been highly rated by travellers around the globe. The possibility of an island escape is right around the corner at any of the amazing islands.”

“We are very glad to see five of Thailand’s finest islands being recognised by TripAdvisor travellers around the world.”
Ko Tao is the clear winner, coming in tenth in the world for Travellers’ Choice Islands. It takes the top spot in Asia, with Ko Phangan, Ko Lanta, Phuket and Ko Samui coming in third, fourth, seventh and ninth respectively.

In the past year, travellers from the United Kingdom, the United States, France, Germany and Australia have shown the greatest interest in Ko Tao (based on the top visitors by country to the Ko Tao destination page on TripAdvisor for the full year of 2013).
Travellers’ Choice Island winners are determined based on the quality and quantity of the most highly-rated hotels, restaurants, and attractions listed for each island on TripAdvisor gathered during a 12-month period.
