Note to self: Soi Dao Highlands is our next Road Trip on March 13th and 14th.  This is an overnighter with 2 green fees, hotel with breakfast and a wine and cheese pool party as well for 2,900 baht.  It’s great fun so sign up soon as we only have 24 slots.

If you have never been to Soi Dao, it is a breathtaking golf course up in the cool mountain air and just 3 hours down the road.  We are about half full so make up your mind!  Ladies are welcome, so why not give your new relationship the road trip test to either make it or break it!

Green Valley was in luscious and delicious condition once again and 40 golfers joined us for the Monday test.  We had some interesting results, and it was a good day to have a high handicap as the top 3 lads had a combined cap of 67!  That’s what this game is all about, so no matter your age or ability, your handicap is the great equalizer that keeps you in the comp and puts everyone off a level playing field.  See the results up top for all the gory details!

I hope this reinforces the fact that The Golf Club welcomes golfers of all handicaps, so let’s see some new faces come out and join us for some great golf here in Pattaya.

One notable event I must report was the incident with TGC partner John McHugh who overruled his other 3 playing partners and called himself out-of-bounds.  It was the honest thing to do as an unfortunately long stretch between the white posts made the ruling very difficult.  It cost Johnny 2 strokes (that would have tied him for the win), but at least he can sleep at night!  It makes for a better round of golf when you are playing with a clean Titleist and a clean conscience.

Wednesday, Feb. 26, Khao Kheow (white tees) – Stableford

1st Ken Aihara (4) 36pts

2nd Anders Pedersen (8) 35pts

T3rd Carmen Hurdon (20) 34pts

T3rd Ian Brimble (7) 34pts

Rave reviews all round for the condition of Khao Kheow for this day’s comp.  That, combined with yet another day of near perfect weather, gave us a full sheet of golfers for a round of millionaire’s golf.

This is the time of year where it seems like we have a revolving door of the lads heading back home.  It was good to see Englishman Ian Brimble get one last appearance on the podium before he heads back to Texas.  We also said farewell to Dave Mather who heads back to a chilly London and Bryan Carroll, winging his way back to Scotland.

Kenny Aihara was once again on top of the leaderboard after a bit of a slump the last few weeks.  For anyone else that wouldn’t be a slump but it was for a great golfer like Kenny, the man is usually very consistent.  Ken probably has the best short game in town and scrambles around the greens like Seve.  Good to see you back on top mate!

We finally had a lady get out and join us this week, as Carmen Hurdon (with hubby Graham, so don’t get any ideas!) shot her way to a 3rd with Ian on 34 points.

Thanks to all who joined us this week, and thanks to Captain Phil Smedley for keeping it all running smoothly.

Friday, Feb. 28, Plutaluang – P.S.C. Monthly Medal

Just a quick note of congratulations to Micky Beresford for winning his C flight, and Kenny Aihara for winning the A Flight at last week’s PSC Monthly comp.  Coincidentally, both of these guys won with us on Monday and Wednesday to give them a great week of tournament golf.  Please see the big article for full results of the P.S.C. Monthly on page 48.
