IPGC golf from Tara Court Golf Group

Sunday, Feb. 23, Green Valley – Stableford

Unfortunately we had a lot of problems here today.  Despite having agreed on Saturday to delay our tee time by thirty minutes, when we arrived we had to wait another forty minutes to tee off and then had to endure over five and a half hours on the course as the play in front of us was extremely slow and not a Marshall in sight to do anything about it.  Next time here we are transferring over to St Andrews at the Green Valley price so at least they accepted that there was a problem and did something about it.

We had a very popular winner today; despite the delays and the slow play Brendan Roddy kept his concentration and had thirty eight points to claim the top spot.  We had three players on thirty five points with Pat Carty coming second on the count back over Frank McGowan, who also beat Don Byrne in to fourth on the count back.  Shaun Merriman was fifth with thirty four and Ted Murphy fifth with thirty three.

Tuesday, Feb. 25, Bangpra – Stableford

Tuesday we were in Bangpra and playing a very long course.  Again many of the tees were back on the blue tee box and it must have been at least 6,700 yds.  As usual the greens were lightning fast and caught out many of our golfers, including myself who despite having an excellent caddy still managed to three-putt too many of the greens.

At least one of our friends found it ok however, as Joe Cuddy still managed to beat his handicap and won with an excellent thirty seven points.  He was followed by Don Byrne with thirty six and Joe McArdle in third with thirty three.  George Cullen took fourth with thirty one and he beat Ted Murphy on a count back.  That was Ted’s second day in the prizes this week and he is coming good just as his holiday is coming to an end.

I believe that there was a far more important match going on within the competition, two of our ladies, Pauline Byrne and Theresa Connolly, took on two of our men and the ladies were victorious.  I won’t embarrass the men by mentioning their names!

Thursday, Feb. 27, Mountain Shadow – Stableford

We were back in one of our favorite courses today where as usual we played off the blue tees.  One of our players objected to this as he felt it would favour the low handicappers but it turned out to be almost a clean sweep for the higher handicappers, with only one ‘low man’ appearing in the prizes.

Ted Murphy was playing his last game with us for this year and for the third time this week he was on the podium, indeed today at the very top as he won the overall with thirty five points.  John Fenwick was second with thirty four points and Tony Pike took third with thirty one, beating John Kelly on the count back.  Pauline Byrne placed fifth with thirty.

Frank McGowan and Jon Batty recorded the only ‘2’s of the day.

1st Ted Murphy (24) 35pts

2nd John Fenwick (22) 34pts

3rd Tony Pike (9) 31pts

4th John Kelly (26) 31pts

5th Pauline Byrne (29) 30pts
