Mr. Ayuth said the Disease Control Department has allocated 100,000 doses of vaccine to the Corrections Department and the first of these will be distributed to the 122 prisons free of COVID-19 cases while vaccinations are due to begin on Thursday at prisons in “red” areas without infections.

The Corrections Department reported on Wednesday that there are 122 prisons throughout the country with no COVID-19 infections, while the other 19 reported 1,087 new cases.

Director-General Ayuth Sintoppant said the Disease Control Department has allocated 100,000 doses of vaccine to the Corrections Department. The first of these will be distributed to the 122 prisons free of COVID-19 cases. Vaccinations are due to begin on Thursday at prisons in “red” areas without infections.

He said preparations have also been made for the release of inmates who have completed their prison sentences. Inmates will be tested for the virus before release. Those to be released from prisons in Bangkok and other high-risk areas will enter quarantine after being released.

Mr. Ayuth added that those suspected of being infected will be placed in 14-day quarantine for observation, before being released. They will be transferred to local health offices for treatment, if found to be infected. (NNT)
