BANGKOK, March 13 – Thai Airways International (THAI) is certain the company’s business will gain profits and projects revenue growth of 3-4 per cent this year.

THAI senior executive vice-president Chokchai Panyayong said, unlike last year where THAI lost Bt12 billion thanks to rising cost burdens, revenue is projected to grow this year, adding his affirmation on the airline’s safety standards which is at international level.

Mr Chokchai admitted that the company reduced the number of flights operating in October-January in order to cut costs. He said Chinese passengers counting for 40 per cent of the overall passengers will start to come back to Thailand in Q2 due to the easing political situation.

Meanwhile, THAI this morning celebrated its new aircraft — Airbus A330-300 and Boeing 777-300ER — by having a leading Buddhist monk anoint them. The planes can carry passenger loads of 299 and 348 persons respectively.

Both aircraft are to fly regional routes and across continents, bringing THAI’s aircraft lineup to 27 Airbus A330-300s, nine Boeing 777-300ERs and six Airbus A380s.
