BANGKOK, 24 May 2011  – The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) is collating data on mega projects with a focus on national infrastructure that will truly benefit economic development, and will present them to the new government for consideration.

FTI Chairperson Payungsak Chartsutipol stated that the FTI is preparing information regarding mega projects which should be continued and improved further, to present to the new government to help strengthen the national economic foundation.

Mr Payungsak expressed his opinions that many infrastructure projects should be expedited such as the dual rail system to reduce transportation cost in the industrial sector, and the sky train and underground system to help reduce energy consumption.

The chairperson added that the development of upstream industry will also benefit others such as steel and petrochemical industries.

Regarding a minimum wage rise proposed by many political parties, Mr Payungsak responded that he wants the new government to discuss the issue with the industrial sector to specify the time frame and wage rate before implementing the policy.

The chairperson stressed that the private sector is not against the minimum wage rise; however, many factors must be taken into consideration such as the market condition, production cost, product prices and many others, not just any single factor.
