Officials inspected a property in Soi Jareongam Moo.1 Nongprue district, after locals reported that it had been allegedly operating as a slaughterhouse without the correct licenses.
Officials questioned the owner and three other staff that were busy cutting 300 kilograms of pork meat with 14 more pigs about to be slaughtered.
They could not show any suitable paperwork and the officials found that the conditions were unsanitary and a potential health risk.
Inspectors take note of the unsanitary conditions.
The business was closed down, and the animals were removed by the health department.
Banglamung Poultry department inspector, Samard Boosasom said the slaughterhouse had been preparing the meat and sending it to local markets at a knocked down price.
This meat may have been cheap, but may also be unfit for human consumption. The department will be checking on other such illegal slaughterhouses operating in the area, so that they can ensure that meat and poultry products are prepared to the highest standards.
