The Pattaya Sports Club is sad to report the passing away of Alan Pearce, who died on Tuesday March 18 following a heart attack.
Alan came to Pattaya to live in 1999 and immediately joined Pattaya Sports Club and participated in golf competitions where he had considerable success playing with the Kronborg and Three Sisters golf groups, as well as the monthly competitions. He was known as the ‘Bionic Man’ with his 2 titanium knees.

Alan became a great asset to PSC where he served as Treasurer for 3 years and at the same time sat on the Golf Committee where he assisted the Golf Chairman and purchased all the prizes for the major competitions as well as doing MC duties. He was also instrumental in organizing the merchandising operation with shirts, caps and towels, all with the PSC logo. One of his many ‘claims to fame’ was that he played more the 100 consecutive PSC monthly tournaments.
Prior to his retirement Alan was a Royal Marine and then worked for Thomas Cook, however it was in sport that he was to excel and have many achievements – he represented England in the Decathlon, only missing out on Olympic selection through injury. At one time he held a unique record (maybe he still does) as he played 7 different sports at county level.
For many years Alan could be found most evenings sitting on his regular stool at the Roo Bar in Walking Street watching the world go by and talking to his many friends. As time went on, he restricted his golf to playing with his friends in the Monday Club at Pattaya Country Club where he also organised golf trips away – hotels – courses and competitions.
President Tony Oakes remembers being with Alan marking out a course and putting out sponsor signs in the dark using car head lights to be ready for the Charity Classic. He was a stalwart of PSC and most reliable.
We had not seen much of him for some time but we know if he could not participate in sport then he would be watching it on TV. Alan had certain views on many topics which he was always willing to share.
To sum up – when I called a friend to tell him of Alan’s demise he said, “He was a nice man” – and so say all of us! RIP.
Alan’s funeral took place on Saturday, March 29 at Wat Khao Photong on Siam Country Club Road and was attended by his sister Maggie and many friends.
