Travellers Rest Golf Group

Golfers are deserting the sinking ship of Pattaya faster than you can shout “Fore!”  In fact on Monday of last week at Treasure Hill that is precisely the number the winner had to beat, actually it was nearer three men and a dog.

Whether this is down to everybody getting out of town before the mayhem and madness starts, also known as Songkran, or whether the rise in temperatures has meant everybody headed for the swimming pool or beach instead or maybe they just don’t like Treasure Hill, who knows.

Monday, March 31, Treasure Hill – Stableford

Monday at Treasure Hill was the lowest turnout of the week and the small numbers certainly helped Fergus Brennan who had home advantage in seeing off the opposition.  Dave Edwards took the runners up spot with Larry Simpson in third place.  The dog came in last!

Tuesday, April 1, Green Valley – Stableford

On Tuesday the numbers were back up to double figures for the weekly visit to Green Valley and we found the GV management had decided to play an April Fool’s joke on everybody by changing the course around again.  So now we all start on the toughest hole on the course, the Stroke Index 1 hole which used to be the third hole.  After that you take a left turn instead of a right to play Hole 2 which used to be Hole 6.  Confused?  We certainly were.

Still, as it turned out it appeared to reduce the distance between the green and the next tee which speeded up the time to complete the round, so perhaps it will turn out to be a good thing.

Rod Ewan certainly approved of the changes by shooting 38pts which was way too good for the rest of the field.  Gerry Fernandez, or Ravi as he is now known because of his shanking problems, shook off the dreaded affliction for the day and strode in second.  Dave Palmer, who used to train greyhounds, showed he also still has a sprightly turn of speed to romp home in third place after losing out on count back to Gerry.

1st Rod Ewan (14) 38pts

2nd Gerry Fernandez (13) 35pts

3rd Dave Palmer (7) 35pts

Thursday, April 3, The Emerald – Stableford

It was off to Emerald on Thursday for the largest turnout of the week.  Rod Ewan, despite being docked a shot after his round at Green Valley, stuck two fingers up to the Handicap Committee and sprinted home in first place with 41pts and was immediately docked a further two shots.  He only beat John Goudge on count back however, so didn’t get things all his own way.  Tewin Poopay Lamthong continued her good form of late by taking third place.

1st Rod Ewan (13) 41pts

2nd John Goudge (8) 41pts

3rd Tewin Poopay Lamthong (12) 35pts

Saturday, April 5, Mt. Shadow – Stableford
