TRAT, 16 April 2014  — As tourists, both Thais and foreign, are heading back to Bangkok at the end of Songkran festival, Trat has stepped up its public transport service by increasing bus frequencies and checking readiness of the vehicles and drivers.

The provincial transport office has increased its personnel in conducting comprehensive engine checks on buses leaving for Bangkok. Bus trips to the capital have seen a 20 trip-per-day increase to accommodate the increasing demand for public transport.

The officials have also ensured the readiness of drivers by providing checks on their alcohol consumption and possible drug taking.

According to the officials, any public buses found to have no proper safety equipment such as fire extinguishers, will not be permitted to leave the terminal until the missing equipment is installed. Moreover, alcoholic beverages are prohibited on public buses.
