BANGKOK, 22 April 2014 – The Constitutional Court will on April 23rd consider Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra’s request for more time to defend herself against charges in connection with the transfer of Mr. Thawil Pliensri, former National Security Council (NSC) chief.

According to Charter Court spokesperson Pimol Thampitakpong, the court will convene a meeting to discuss whether or not it should grant the Premier more time in the case concerning the transfer of Mr. Thawil from NSC chief to an adviser to the PM’s Office. The spokesperson said all the nine Constitutional Court judges will attend the discussion.

Miss Yingluck last week had her lawyer submit a petition to the court, asking for 15 more days to prepare documents. Under the procedure, Miss Yingluck as a defendant is able to request for a 15-day extension, but it must be approved by the judges.

The Constitutional Court decided to accept the case after the Administrative Court last month ruled that the transfer of Mr. Thawil was unlawful and that the former NSC chief must be reinstated.
