Sunday, May 15, Green Valley – Stableford

A Flight

1st Mark Wood (10) 46pts

2nd Dave Stockman (4) 43pts

B Flight

1st Peter Henshaw (19) 39pts

2nd Adam Oyston (20) 38pts

The performance on customer friendly Green Valley foretold it was to be a week of outstanding efforts.  Perhaps it was due to the drought finally finding its way to all of the courses and a firming up of the fairways, or perhaps it is a result of a winnowing of the competitors down to battle hardened residents.

Mark Wood.Mark Wood.

In any event, one didn’t have to look far for the man of the match as Mark Wood led the premier lads home with a fantastic 46 points, which included a no score on the par four fifth hole.

No one deserved to be more disappointed than Dave Stockton who saw his stellar 43 points only good for second in A Flight.  Dave went round in three under gross and collected two near pins and three ‘2’s to boot.  His brace of near pins held out not like Nick Strasshine who once had three near pins only for someone to have a hole in one on the par three sixteenth hole.  Garry Green and ‘The Donkey’ both finished with 40 points for nothing.

Ah yes, Peter Don O’Corleone Henshaw kept the purple patch going as he took the second flight with a solid 39 point haul, leaving Adam Oyston to fill the podium.

Along with Dave’s three 2’s were those by Mark Wood, Garry Green and Bill Mayfield.

Back at Lewiinski’s it was good to see buddies Jack ‘Bilko’ Spencer and Jimmy ‘Captain’.  Jimmy – what’s with the beard?

Monday, May 16, Bangpakong – Stableford

1st Terry Mangan (12) 45pts

2nd Peter Henshaw (19) 40pts

The size of the field might have been impacted by the low season and back to back playing days, but the quality of the play was certainly not affected.

Ireland’s Terry Mangan followed Mark Wood’s 46 points on Sunday with his own blistering 45 points here. Peter ‘Don Corleone’ Henshaw made it an all-Irish affair as he fashioned a rock solid 40 points.

Terry added a ‘2’ to his winnings along with Yves Mouthier.

Wednesday, May 18, St. Andrews – Stableford

1st Terry Mangan (12) 40pts

2nd Mike Jeffreys (16) 38pts

3rd Colin Davis (16) 38pts

Desmond Muirhead’s monster seems to be loved or despised with few ambivalent. Terry ‘I’m on form’ Mangan appears to be one of the “it’s ok” guys as he carried on where he left of on Monday, carding a magical 40 points.  The society hopes he can keep it up as the forthcoming handicap cut will require it.

The silver and bronze was sorted out by a count-back with Mike the ‘Welsh Wizard’ Jeffreys shutting the stable door in the ‘Donkeys’ face.

Never underestimate the Donkey as he-haw ways has the last laugh, posting the days only 2.

The headline committee had their work cut out between Mark ‘no show’ Wood and two time Terry Mangan.  When the dust had settled it was Mark who held up.
