Flood aid increased for Thai farmers

The government raised financial assistance for flood-affected farmers as flooding remained in seven provinces.

Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Chalermchai Sri-on said the farmers whose produce was damaged by floods would receive financial aid set by the new rates that was announced on Sept 1.



According to the new rates of assistance for farmers affected by disasters, they would receive 1,340 baht per rai of damaged paddy fields, 1,980 baht per rai of crop and 4,048 baht per rai of perennials and other plants. The assistance was limited at 30 rai per flood-affected family. Financial aid for livestock farmers and fishermen also increased, Mr Chalermchai said.


The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives reported that from Aug 25, floods hit 32 provinces. Situations already returned to normal in 25 provinces. Twenty-five districts in seven other provinces remained flooded.



Flood levels were rising in Kamphaeng Phet, Chaiyaphum and Nakhon Ratchasima provinces. Flooding was stable and will disappear in Tak, Phitsanuolok, Phichit and Ayutthaya in a few days unless it rains. (TNA)
