The Prime Minister has paid a visit to communities by the Chao Phraya River to inspect the readiness of flood response plans, reassuring villagers the government is working to solve the problems and help affected people.

The Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha on Thursday visited communities located in low-lying areas by the Chao Phraya River beyond the flood levee to inspect the preparedness of flood response plans.

His inspection trip started with a boat ride from Pak Kret Pier in Nonthaburi, during which he inspected the current water situation in the Chao Phraya River, the construction of flood walls, and meet with affected villagers.

He urged related agencies to proactively notify villagers on water directions, in order to allow each area to prepare in advance according to different flood situations they could face.

He then urged local agencies to coordinate their action plans for water management with the Office of National Water Resources (ONWR), to ensure the effectiveness and unity of the operations.

The Prime Minister said he is concerned with the present water situation, as Thailand is now facing both the monsoon and storms.

He said Thai people should prepare for these situations, as no one can stop Nature, while encouraging the general public to be more conscious about environmental issues.

Gen Prayut said the government is ready to take care of all people and all sectors, while emphasizing his concerns for areas in the central region, especially areas located outside flood levees.

He urged related agencies to accelerate the drainage of flood water from upstream to the sea, stressing that the government has already prepared the drainage systems in advance.

The Prime Minister then urged villagers living by bodies of water to help save water resources, by removing debris and weeds from waterways. He also asked boat operators to lower their speed, preventing the waves caused from damaging houses.

The Prime Minister today emphasized that all sides must work together, to allow everyone to coexist with Nature. (NNT)
