Ubon Ratchathani Governor visits illegal Bangladeshi refugees

UBON RATCHATHANI 8 May 2014  — Ubon Ratchathani’s governor has paid a visit to the Bangladeshi immigrants who tried to enter Thailand illegally and are awaiting to be repatriated to their home country.

Governor Wanchai Suthiworachai of Ubon Ratchathani recently paid a visit to the province’s illegal immigrants who were stopped at a police checkpoint in Songkhla province. The governor donated clothing and food to the migrants, who are awaiting to be sent back to their home country.

Police detained a total of 70 illegal Bangladeshi migrants who were attempting to enter the Kingdom via Sadao district of Songkhla province. They were later moved to Ubon Ratchathani’s immigration checkpoint to be repatriated to Bangladesh.

The migrants were reportedly trying to enter the Kingdom on April 4 of this year. Immigration police have contacted the Bangladeshi authorities in order for the illegal migrants to be sent back.
